Virginia Housing Finances a 100% Affordable Housing Development in Woodbridge

March 20, 2024

In late February, Standard Communities broke ground on the Jefferson Plaza Apartments in Woodbridge, Virginia. This development will comprise 240 total units, with 147 one-bedroom and 93 two-bedroom units distributed across three stories. All units will be restricted to residents making 60% or less of the area median income.

This property will sit at 1305 Jefferson Plaza, on a 7.6-acre parcel that was formerly shopping center. Jefferson Plaza is a transit-oriented development located along the Route 1 Corridor. It’s both within walking distance of the Woodbridge Virginia Railway Express station and close to Interstate 95, grocery and convenience stores, restaurants and more.

Virginia Housing provided financing and tax credits for Jefferson Plaza. A new development where middle-income families can afford to live is a significant step forward in tackling the affordable housing shortage in Prince William County and in achieving Virginia Housing’s mission of helping Virginians attain quality, affordable housing.

Director of Rental Housing Programs David Glassman shared remarks at the groundbreaking.

“For many Virginians,” Glassman said, “finding a great place to live that is also affordable can be a huge challenge. Jefferson Plaza Apartments is going to flip that script by not just the construction of 240 new apartment homes, but an attractive, modern apartment community using quality materials and thoughtful design.”
