At Virginia Housing, Internships Are a Path to Excellence
February 13, 2026Virginia Housing is currently accepting applications for eight internships across our IT, Community Outreach, Communications, HR, Executive, Homeownership and Internal Audit teams.
All applications will close at midnight on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Participants in Virginia Housing’s internship program gain hands-on experience with meaningful projects that are rooted in our mission of helping Virginians attain quality, affordable housing. In each of the last three years, Virginia Housing’s internship program has received a Top Virginia Employers for Interns award from the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (VTOP).
“My work has been very dynamic,” says Adam, a Virginia Housing Intern who is currently completing his undergraduate degree. “I’ve been able to experience a lot, from reviewing marketing reports and our renter and homebuyer handbooks to working with other departments and getting direct feedback on how marketing can meet their needs. I’ve had the chance to really dive in and be part of processes from the start rather than just being told to produce an outcome. It’s taught me a lot about how things actually get done.”
While many interns are in school like Adam, that is not the case for all. Beyond undergraduate, graduate and trade school students, Virginia Housing gladly accepts individuals exiting the military, military spouses and career-transitioning professionals as interns.
“I'm grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in Virginia Housing's culture as I began my career transition from public safety,” says Rick, a recent Quality Assurance and Governance Intern who formerly worked as a firefighter and paramedic after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. “At no point did I feel like I was doing busy work to earn my place here. I felt like I was a full team member that was contributing to our overarching goals from the start.”
